Short Programs

MIT Professional Education’s Short Programs offer more than 50 courses and two professional certificates in two- to five-day intensive sessions in the summer. Course topics include biotechnology, data analysis and modeling, engineering leadership, design and manufacturing, professional communications, and more. Each course combines MIT's groundbreaking research, hands-on learning experiences, and faculty expertise. With insights from industry leaders, government professionals, and top academics, these programs equip attendees with actionable knowledge that delivers long-term value.

Short Programs attendees come from across the United States and around the world. About 30 percent are international; another 20 percent come from New England states. Most are mid-career technical, scientific, business, and government professionals who seek new skills for the purposes of a promotion, career advancement, or professional standing.

In addition to receiving a Certificate of Completion, Short Programs participants can earn Continuing Education Units based on learning contact hours detailed on each course's information page. Participants can also enroll in Short Programs Professional Certificate Programs in Innovation and Technology, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, Design and Manufacturing, and Biotechnology and Life Sciences. These certificates are structured for completion within three years.
